Scenario analysis
Modelling outcomes under different assumption sets.
Definition
Scenario analysis, or what-if analysis, calculates financial outcomes under varied assumptions — typically a base, upside and downside case — to understand the range of plausible futures.
Why it matters
A single-point forecast is always wrong. Knowing the shape of the downside is what makes a plan resilient rather than optimistic.
