Accounts receivable
Money owed to the business by customers.
Definition
Accounts receivable is revenue that has been recognised but not yet collected. Its ageing profile shows how long invoices remain outstanding.
Why it matters
Receivables are revenue you cannot spend. A rising receivables balance alongside flat revenue usually signals collection problems, not growth.
